Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2016-2017.

Since the revolution in 1917, Russia has undergone dramatic changes, including the creation of the world's first communist regime, the collapse of that regime in 1990 and the subsequent dismemberment of the Soviet state a year later, the rise of Russia's first democracy in the 1990s, and then in the 2000s a transition to a new dictatorship.  This course will analyze these regimes and these transitions, but not equally.  Half of the course will be devoted to an analysis of the current regime led by Vladimir Putin, with a focus on both domestic and international politics.
