Course Description

This is a seminar designed for first- and second-year graduate students who intend to pursue advanced study in the field of medieval China studies. It introduces students to the materials and tools that are essential for conducting research in the literature and culture of the period as well as the larger issues of goals and methods. In particular, students will examine prevalent practices and trends that define the scholarship on medieval China in the past few decades; they will also consider the question concerning future directions and opportunities that may be available to scholars in the field.

Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: Reading knowledge of Classical and modern Chinese is required.
