Students will be taught the basics of riding for polo, mallet and rein handling, the 4 major strokes, use of artificial aids, and offensive and defensive strategies in playing arena polo. Game rules will be discussed in classroom instruction, video review, as well as mounted on horseback. Students will be taught the differences similarities between outdoor grass polo and arena polo. Horsemanship and horse care for polo will also be a focus in this course.

  • Instruction Mode: In Person

    Students must demonstrate competence & comfort in an English saddle at the walk, trot & canter and will be asked to perform a simple riding pattern during Day 1 of the course. Only students deemed able to ride safely by the instructor will be allowed to continue with the course. Any student found lacking in safety or skills will need to drop the course. Students accepted for the course, must join the United States Polo Association as student player-members at www.uspolo.org.
