Course Description
Course information provided by the 2026-2027 Catalog.
Communities are built out of gatherings such as dinners, club meetings, services, study breaks, protests, and parties. Most are designed by habit rather than by intention, and almost none of us are taught how to plan them. This seminar treats gathering as a skill and as a civic practice. Each week students will read one chapter of Priya Parker's The Art of Gathering and use it as a lens on the gatherings they attend; students will observe a gathering of their choosing and report back to the group. At the end of the semester, small teams will apply Parker's framework to plan and host a gathering of their own, designed to build community on North Campus, at Cornell, or in Ithaca.
