Course information provided by the 2026-2027 Catalog.

AI can do a great deal, yet most organizations have changed little in how they work. This course teaches a structured approach to deploying AI and applies it in a semester-long project with a partner organization: a small company, nonprofit, Cornell department, or large company. Students learn to assess where AI can do an organization’s work and to design a complete initiative, including the opportunity, the technical architecture, and changes to jobs, metrics, and incentives. Each initiative is then tested through screening, economic analysis, low-cost experiments, and field validation. Teams build a working system, measure whether it handles the partner’s real work reliably, and prepare it for ongoing operation. The course mixes instruction with team working sessions.
