Course Description

The objective of this rotation is to prepare students for their future encounters with all types of donkeys in all types of settings and to provide a thorough understanding of appropriate welfare for these donkeys. This course will emphasize anatomical, physiological, behavioral and other differences between the donkey and the horse. It will also highlight the differences between the typical domestic donkey, feral donkeys, working donkeys, and those involved in production systems. The goal is to provide the tools necessary for practitioners in equine, mixed or other fields to have successful, productive encounters with donkeys whether those encounters occur in their veterinary lives or their personal travels.
Prerequisites VTMED 5510.
Enrollment Priority Enrollment limited to: third-year veterinary students.
