This course provides an introduction to relational and ethical leadership skills in health care, focusing on three areas of professional competency: leadership and organizational behavior, communication, and ethics. Classes are structured to be highly interactive and participatory, allowing students to practice applying practical tools to the real-world challenges they will face professionally.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply leadership and organizational behavior concepts to common health care scenarios and identify analytic approaches and practical strategies to lead and communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrate professional business communication skills by composing clear, concise, and persuasive written messages and delivering effective oral presentations both with and without visual aids.
  • Analyze ethical trade-offs in health care decision making by evaluating real-world cases where leaders must balance such issues as financial constraints, patient quality, regulatory requirements, etc. and develop ethical leadership practices that emphasize transparency, integrity, and social responsibility.
