Course information provided by the 2025-2026 Catalog.

The Experience in Strategic Operations course is designed around three pillars: 1) the intersection of operations management and enterprise strategy, 2) current use cases in executing operations management strategies, and 3) a real-world consulting project to design solutions that improve enterprise performance towards specific strategic objectives, where operations play a critical role. Classroom instruction is a combination of case-based learning on specific operations topics, as well as sessions on operations fundamentals that provide certain skills and tools for a successful project. Senior operations executives will lead guest lectures. Select companies will sponsor a consulting project for a student team to address a specific operations-related opportunity for the enterprise. This capstone project is the centerpiece of the course. This course is ideal for students who: are pursuing careers in operations; pursuing careers in consulting and want a real-world consulting engagement experience; enjoy operations/supply chain and seek additional knowledge in their Cornell learning experience; or students who want to expand their functional domain learning.

Enrollment Priority No prerequisites for Cornell Johnson MBA, MEng ORIE or MILR students. Others must be approved by the instructor.
