What is an emotion? Are emotions universally recognizable? Do emotions change throughout life? Where do emotions reside in the brain? Can we control our emotions? How do emotions influence the quality of our close relationships? In this seminar, we will consider such questions from the perspective of contemporary psychological research.


Enrollment Priority Prior coursework in human development, psychology, or related behavioral sciences (e.g., HD 1130, HD 2180, PSYCH 1101, PSYCH 2750) is strongly recommended. Students should be comfortable reading and critically evaluating empirical research articles and participating in advanced seminar discussions.
