Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2024-2025.

If you are feeling uncomfortable, unprepared, or worried about discussing and performing euthanasia, you are not alone; and this course is for you. Or, if you just want to experience discussing and practicing performing euthanasia before having to provide this essential procedure for a client and their loved one, this is the course you want. A survey of veterinary schools found that the majority of veterinarians are still learning the procedure or seeing it for the first-time post-graduation (Cooney et al, 2021). It seems that, at most, only 25% of veterinary students graduate with first-hand euthanasia experience (McVety, 2017). This course is meant to improve those numbers here at Cornell. Through immersive laboratories and active-learning-focused lectures, students will (1) expand their knowledge and (2) refine clinical communication and practical skills as they relate to veterinary euthanasia of small animals.

When Offered Spring.

Permission Note Enrollment limited to: third-year veterinary students.
