Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2024-2025.
Bike Touring is for those who want to learn how to travel self-supported by bike. This course will cover bike touring equipment use, camping skills, route planning and bike maintenance. Skills on the bike will include road riding safety and riding with a loaded bike. Classes will include rides of 5-15 miles and the course will culminate in a two-day bike tour with overnight camping. The weekend tour may include up to 30 miles per day.
When Offered Fall, Spring.
Fees Course fee: $275 for instruction/food. Students without a bike can rent one from Cornell Outdoor Education for $60 for the semester.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: ability to comfortably ride a bike 5-15 miles in a single ride.
Satisfies Requirement Satisfies one PE requirement if taken as PE. First class is required, students must attend all classes to receive PE credit.

Instruction Mode: In Person
Course fee: $275. Fee includes group camping equipment, food and bike touring equipment (racks and panniers.) Fee does not include bike rental ($60) or personal camping equipment. The first class meeting will be held on campus in Bartels Hall, room B01. Other classes will first meet at Bartels Hall and then travel to other areas around the Fingerlakes Region. There will be an overnight 5/3 into 5/4. Transportation is provided for classes off campus.
Drop Deadline: Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Students will be responsible for the course fee and assessed a $50 administrative fee if they do not drop by the deadline.
