Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2024-2025.
This class will teach you the skills needed to start trad climbing on your own. Learn to place and evaluate trad gear, build trad anchors, belay from above, and rappel. We will introduce skills at the Lindseth Climbing Center and travel for a weekend climbing and camping in the 'Gunks to get experience on real rock.
When Offered Spring.
Fees Course fee: $495 for instruction/travel and food.
Satisfies Requirement Satisfies one PE requirement if taken as PE. Participation in all classes is required to receive PE credit.
Comments Prerequisite: at least 1 year of rock climbing regularly. Lead certification at Lindseth Climbing Center. PE 1653 or PE 1645 or equivalent personal outdoor rock climbing experience following traditional lead climbs required. Seven Week - Second. Choose one lecture and one field studies.

Instruction Mode: In Person
Course fee: $495. First two classes will take place at Bartels Hall room B01/ Lindseth Climbing. Transportation is provided for classes off campus. Prerequisites: At least 1 year of rock climbing regularly.Lead certification at Lindseth Climbing Center. PE 1653 or PE 1645 or equivalent personal outdoor rock climbing experience following traditional lead climbs required. Instructor approval required before registering (anm67@cornell.edu).
Drop Deadline: Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Students will be responsible for the course fee and assessed a $50 administrative fee if they do not drop by the deadline. The weekend trip (5/2-5/4) will first meet at Bartels Hall and then head out to Shawangunks located in New Paltz, NY.
