Strategies for Sustainability

The world has become increasingly focused on transitioning to a more sustainable future and that presents opportunities for business leaders. This course will explore "ESG" and "sustainability" and build the case for them as a business imperative. It has been designed for students pursuing careers in technology with the conviction that command of this material will lead to better outcomes on the job. Following a series of foundation-setting sessions, we'll leverage case studies and guest lecturers to learn about: (1) "Innovators" focused on sustainability as a value proposition and core commitment; (2) "Investors" seeking outsized financial returns by supporting sustainability-related businesses; and (3) "Incumbents" working to adjust their business models to capitalize on growing interest in sustainability. By the end of the course, students will be able to explain how environmental and social topics create opportunities and risks and how companies and investors can make sustainability a growth driver.

Enrollment limited to: Open to Johnson & Cornell Tech Students who have completed PREREQUISITE TECHIE 5310 - Business Fundamentals (or received waiver) Deadline to drop March 20th at 11:59pm. Permission from faculty required to add/drop after March 20th. Deadline to drop without “W” April 10th After this date, "W" grade on your transcript. This course counts as a Management Science Elective.
