VTMED 6562

Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2022-2023.

This course will build on the knowledge of pain in veterinary patients acquired in Block V. We will address the prevention, recognition, and treatment of pain across domestic and non-domestic species. Species-specific pain scoring systems will be introduced. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment of adaptive and maladaptive pain will be presented, with an emphasis on pain management in primary care and emergency practice in domestic species. Grade is dependent on class attendance, completion of a weekly computer module that will allow students to work through actual pain medicine cases, a case-based final examination (open-book), and submission of a course evaluation.

When Offered Spring.

Permission Note Enrollment limited to: third-year veterinary students.
