Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2022-2023.
Program includes classroom work, skill training in the pool, and open-water training in Cayuga Lake in the summer and fall. Spring classes will be referral only (no open water dives). P.A.D.I. open-water certification awarded upon successful completion of summer and fall classes. Please carefully read the additional information on the PE website for particulars.

Instruction Mode: In Person
Course Fee: $470. Last day to add: Mon. 2/6. Last day to drop: Thurs. 2/9. Students will be responsible for the course fee and late fee if they do not drop by deadline. Knowledge development will be completed independently before lec/lab sections via e-learning (students may choose their language). Lecture will include completing a quick review quiz, reviewing any missed questions, getting a mask/snorkel and gear for the next day in the pool. Please note: Pool dates for each section are listed in each lab section. For more information, please see: www.pe.cornell.edu/. Course prerequisites: able to swim, medically fit for diving, comfortable in the water. PRIOR to the Open Water Diver course, your instructor will ask you to: Float or tread water without aids for 10 minutes Swim 200 metres/yards with no aids or 300 metres/yards with mask, fins and snorkel. Scuba diving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving. Avoid disappointment, download and review the Diver Medical form https://www2.padi.com/mypadi/uploadedFiles/24_Training_Essentials/242_Curriculum/2421_Diver_Training/10346E_Diver%20Medical_Form.pdf to ensure you won’t need a physician’s approval to dive before enrolling in a scuba course. Instructors, divemasters and dive shop staff are not physicians and should not be asked for medical advice; only medical professionals can give medical clearance to dive.
