This graduate-level seminar course addresses some of the key topics in disaster prevention and recovery. The focus is on developing an understanding of problems and trends and discussing challenges and likely outcomes. Through a combination of classroom presentations by invited experts, extensive discussion of assigned readings, and project work, students will become familiar with some of the most important themes in disaster prevention and recovery, and to leverage the lessons to be learned from academic research and past experiences to ensure more effective management of natural and manmade disasters.
