This course focuses on using internal organizational data to improve decision making. The class is divided into two units. In the first unit, we learn about cost fundamentals, cost behavior, budgeting, variance analysis, and the use of cost information for internal decision making. In the second unit, we discuss the pros and cons of different costing systems (with an emphasis on accounting for manufacturing) and considerations when designing systems for performance measurement and management. Instruction is a mixture of lecture and case discussion. Grading is based on exams, short quizzes, and class contribution.

Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: NCC 5000, NCC 5010, and NCC 5020, or equivalent.

    The Instructor for this class will be teaching virtually. Enrollment limited to: Johnson, Graduate students, Undergraduate Senior and Juniors Only. Hybrid: rotational in person attendance. You will be notified of your eligibility to attend in person and students should connect remotely until a seat is assigned. There will be no enrollment from a wait list into a class if you have a time conflict or if it will create an overload. Students dropping this course after February 22, 2021 will be assessed a fee of $100. The deadline to drop the class without a “W” is April 5, 2021 @11:59pm but you will still be charged the $100 late fee. This course is a Management Science Elective.
