Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2020-2021.
Fundamentals of fluid mechanics. Macroscopic and microscopic balances. Applications to problems involving viscous flow.
When Offered Spring.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: ENGRD 2190 and MATH 2930.
Outcomes
- Demonstrate the ability to explain the physical mechanisms governing fluid behavior in a variety of materials and settings. (a,g)
- Solution of the equations of motion: solution of the microscopic balance equations for hydrostatics, unidirectional flows, boundary layer flows, and other simple flow situations. (a,e,k)
- Solving engineering fluid dynamics applications involving macroscopic mass and momentum balances, and Bernoulli's equations. Use of macroscopic balances together with unidirectional flow analysis. (a,e,k)
- Understanding the role of nonlinearity, instability, and turbulence in fluid dynamics. (a,g)
