Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2019-2020.
With a focus on the pivotal period from the invention of photography until World War II, this course examines the economy of work within modern visual culture. It addresses the mediation and representation of industrial labor by way of photographic reportage and cinéma vérité, and how these visual forms contrast with modern artistic practice in Europe, Asia, and North America. A range of materials, including illustrated magazines, advertisements, films, and world exhibitions, are considered.
