Lectures cover the fundamentals of X-ray crystallography, X-ray scattering, and electron microscopy with a practical emphasis on methods for investigating the three-dimensional structures of macromolecules. Topics include the physics of scattering and imaging; sample preparation; data collection and processing; and structure determination, refinement, validation, and interpretation.

Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: two semesters of college-level calculus (MATH 1110 and MATH 1120; 4 AP credits and MATH 1910; or equivalent courses taken elsewhere) and two semesters of college-level physics (PHYS 1101 and 1102; PHYS 2207 and 2208; PHYS 1112 and 2213; PHYS 1116 and 2217; or equivalent courses taken elsewhere).
