Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2018-2019.

The critique of institutions has been a major theme of avant-garde art since 1900, and theorists have taken up the matter in various forms since the 1960s, continuing to produce new texts in the contemporary moment. In academic music studies, institutional critique has played a far less pronounced role in discussions of radical practice. How would one conceive of the institution in musical terms, and how would one adapt or challenge existing theories of institutional critique in the context of music?
