Develops and applies spatial statistical concepts and techniques to ecological and natural resource issues. Topics include visualizing spatial data and analysis and modeling of geostatistical, lattice, and spatial point processes.  Applied analysis is carried out in the R statistical computing environment.  PLSCS 6200 may be taken simultaneously.

Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: BTRY 6010 and BTRY 6020. Highly recommended prerequisite: introductory GIS course.

Outcomes
  • Students will be able to develop and apply spatial statistical concepts and techniques to ecological and natural resource issues.
  • Students will be able identify and quantitatively characterize geostatistical, spatial point, and conditional autoregressive processes.
  • Students will be able to develop effective survey designs for collecting spatial environmental information.
  • Students will be able to identify the major trends in spatial statistics literature.
  • Students will be able to identify and utilize spatial autocorrelation and differentiate fully trend from variation.
  • Students will be able to effectively communicate quantitative scientific information concerning spatial statistical processes.
