Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2017-2018.
Applications of dynamics, vibrations and controls to systems of interest to mechanical engineers. These could include robotic and human arms, robotic and human legged locomotion, dynamics of motorcycles, cars and bicycles, dynamics of boats and drones, machine dynamics. 2D and 3D applications. Introduction to 3D dynamics of a single rigid object. Simulations and animations. Testing control ideas in simulation. Discussions of the mechanics and dynamics of student-generated examples from man-made machines or nature. This course extends MAE 2030 and MAE 4730/MAE 5730 through: 1) Coverage of numerical simulation of motions in 3D; and 2) Applications of dynamics theory to real-world systems. That is, the examples are chosen for their intrinsic interest rather than just for their pedagogical value in learning dynamics skills.
When Offered Spring.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: MAE 2030 or equivalent, competence in MATLAB.
Regular Academic Session. Combined with: MAE 5710
