ENGL 5800

ENGL 5800

Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2017-2018.

This Graduate Creative Writing Special Seminar allows writing students to learn about craft from a visiting creative writer. Exact content will vary depending on the instructor, but all seminars will take an in-depth look at the craft of writing. In Spring 2018, the topic is: Ishion! Alice! Joanie! Lyrae! Let's read faculty members' poems and then talk about them behind their backs. (We'll talk about Robert as well, time permitting.)  Instead of a seminar room and critical writing, we'll meet to respond to their work with poems of our own. Our purpose is to discover what makes their voices tick, what obsessions drive their aesthetic choices, what sensibility shapes their diction and syntax. What happens when we twist their poetics to our own urgencies? Is imitation truly flattering? Is it even possible?

When Offered Spring.

Permission Note Enrollment limited to: graduate students in the MFA program.
