Provides students with the opportunity to study birds intensively in a neotropical environment. Students learn observational and field techniques, formulate and participate in group research projects.

When Offered Multi-semester course spring (weeks 1-7).

Fees Course fee (includes food and lodging): Approximately $2,000, depending on the number of students enrolled.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisites: Enrollment primarily for students with limited or no bird knowledge.

Comments There will be a trip to the Dominican Republic during the winter break. Students must enroll in both BIOEE 2640 and BIOEE 2641 to receive a final grade. The grade recorded at the end of the second semester (BIOEE 2641) evaluates the student's performance in the course for the entire year.

Outcomes
  • Organize their field observations in ways that make it possible to analyze them.
  • Analyze and interpret observations in collaboration with peers, explain and defend their interpretations and conclusions.
  • Write up their results in the format of a scientific publication.
