Faculty At Home Seminar: Law, Race, and Social Justice: The Afro-Amer. Student Movement of the 1960s

In 1960, six years after Brown v. The Board of Education, black college students in the South adopted a new tactic in the struggle for civil rights—the sit-in. In this seminar we will explore the history of the sit-in movement by focusing upon its genesis, its importance to other social movement, and how it intersected with litigation challenges to racial injustice. In addition to readings excerpts from biographies and scholarly works, we will also use primary materials from online sources such as the Civil Rights Digital Library, as well as documentary films.
