This course is an introduction to the theories and thinking behind experience based learning and its relationship to professional practice, community service and personal development that lie at the center of student off-campus experiences.  Students work out a carefully considered and thoughtful understanding of their personal values and career interests and explore the 'right fit' internship.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the experience-based learning process to which they will be exposed in the Urban Semester Program.
  • Evaluate the frameworks, concepts and practices of experiential learning.
  • Carefully describe personal values and professional development interests.
  • Analyze the internships that are the 'right-fit' for personal and professional development.
  • Demonstrate relationship building through dialogue and group exercises.
  • Evaluate the assets-based approach to learning and the power of reflection.
  • Describe reflections on experiences.
  • Evaluate moral and ethical principles of experiential learning.
  • Analyze disparities and difference
