Weill Cornell Medical College faculty from several clinical departments including the department of medicine, department of surgery, department of anesthesiology, and department of emergency medicine, share their experiences in global health and international work. These global health experts will present their experiences abroad in a seminar style course.

When Offered Spring (weeks 8-15).

Outcomes
  • Students will be able to describe the scope of global surgery and anesthesia, emergency response to domestic and international humanitarian disasters, worldwide biosocial factors that impact health, such as poverty and economics, gender violence, and access to natural resources.
  • Students will analyze the difference between traditional medical mission style work abroad and a biosocial approach to global health.
  • By meeting experienced faculty within the various clinical departments at Weill Cornell Medical College including but not limited to the Department of Anesthesiology, the Department of Emergency Medicine, and the Department of Surgery, Students will be able to describe their international experiences in regions such as Africa and India, and the impact of biosocial factors on health.
  • Students will be able to describe the complicated nature of interventions abroad such as the ethics of implementation programs and research.
  • Students will be able to evaluate the sustainable nature of existing initiatives throughout the developing world.
  • Students will be able to design their own global health initiatives and programs based on a biosocial approach to health.
