Thus far, the field of cognitive neuroscience has primarily focused on the neuroanatomy of cognition. In this course, we will review the basic functional anatomy and properties of neurotransmitter systems in order to also consider the neurochemistry of cognition. In recent years, this sub-discipline has become an important and growing area within cognitive neuroscience.

Prerequisites/Corequisites Recommended prerequisite: HD 2200 

Outcomes
  • Will demonstrate knowledge of the principles of how brain cells communicate, primarily chemically, and how this manifests in human cognition and behavior.
  • Will be able to apply and integrate knowledge from neuroscience, psychology and psychiatry
  • Will develop skills to be able to synthesize lecture and assigned reading material in both written and oral form – research paper and oral presentation assignments.
  • Will be able to use library resources relevant to human behavior and neuroscience
