Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2015-2016.
Covers evaluation of fibers, yarns, fabrics, and garments, with emphases on the meaning of standards, testing philosophy, quality control, and statistical analysis. Discusses day-to-day tests done in the textile and apparel industry. Laboratory sections introduce students to various test methods, data generation for analysis, and evaluation.

Fees Lab fee: $20.
Permission Note Enrollment limited to: 36 students. Enrollment limited to: 18 students per laboratory.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: FSAD 1350 and a statistics course.
Outcomes
- Students should be conversant with definitions and perceptions of quality.
- Students should be familiar with industry standards, regulatory issues, and oversight organizations.
- Student should understand the role of quality assurance throughout the textile and sewn product development, production, and distribution cycle.
- Students should be able to interpret and write fabric and sewn product specifications.
- Students should know why, when, and how testing and evaluation is conducted.
- Students should be able to interpret test data from physical testing and relate it to product parameters and performance standards.
- Students should understand sampling and statistical methods in quality control systems.
- Students should be able to conduct a quality assurance inspection of a sewn product.
- Students should be able to communicate quality issues effectively within the fashion industry.
Regular Academic Session. Choose one lecture and one laboratory.
