The course is part of an international collaboration across some of the world's best technical universities to provide practical, collaborative software-engineering experience as part of university computer-science curriculum. Students have the opportunity to work on projects for existing open-source code bases as parts of small teams formed across multiple universities. These projects are characterized by being active in both development and utilization as well as being open to new and relatively inexperienced committers.
