Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2014-2015.
This course introduces computational methods and their applications in regional science, planning, and public policy. The techniques covered range from inter-regional input-output (IRIO) models to computable general equilibrium (CGE) frameworks to recent advances in agent-based modeling (ABM). Many of the models are analytically intractable: they cannot be solved using the classical assumption-theorem-proof approach. Computer simulation is thus the only resort. To that end we will use a variety of software and languages, including Excel, MATLAB, GAMS, NetLogo, and Java.
When Offered Spring.
