Course Description

This course introduces students to foundational data skills used in plant science and related disciplines. Students develop skills in data collection, management, analysis, and visualization using common software tools and applied case studies. Emphasis is placed on understanding data types, evaluating collection methods, and building the ability to interpret plant science data in academic and professional settings. Students will engage in hands-on data analysis using real-world or applied plant science datasets.

Learning Outcomes
- Organize, import, and manage plant science data using common spreadsheet and data analysis software.
- Differentiate between qualitative and quantitative data types and identify appropriate methods for collecting each.
- Apply foundational statistical and descriptive analysis techniques to summarize and interpret data.
- Create basic data visualizations to communicate analytical findings clearly and accurately.
- Evaluate data collection methods and identify potential sources of bias or error in plant science research and applied settings.
