Aikido is unique as a non-violent, non-competitive Japanese martial art. A defender disarms/immobilizes an attacker without causing injury by using circular movements to redirect the opponent’s momentum. Techniques are based on principles of movement, not strength. You practice how to throw/pin your partner, and how to fall and roll out safely. Aikido improves physical stamina, flexibility, balance and coordination, as well as mental conditioning such as self-confidence, alertness and concern for others. Aikido can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age, sex, or size. Students have the opportunity to test for their first official rank at the course's end.
