Course Description
Course information provided by the 2026-2027 Catalog.
The AI Innovation Lab is a project studio in which student teams build real, deployable AI solutions for Cornell stakeholders and public engagement initiatives. Each semester, Cornell units submit authentic problems in education, research, and administration; teams scope a problem, design an agentic-AI solution, and deliver a working product, culminating in a public Demo Day. Building on Agentic AI Architecture, students apply large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, tools, memory, and multi-agent patterns under production constraints, data access, evaluation, cost, safety, and human oversight. Weekly Lab sessions combine hands-on team work with faculty mentorship, partner check-ins, and short clinics on engineering and deployment practice. Students engage in structured, documented reflection on their community-engaged work with partners. Teamwork, communication, and responsible deployment are emphasized throughout.

Learning Outcomes
- Scope an authentic stakeholder problem and translate it into a feasible agentic-AI solution design with clear success criteria.
- Build, evaluate, and deploy a working AI Agents as part of a team, applying production constraints such as data access, cost, evaluation, safety, and human oversight.
- Communicate results to non-technical stakeholders and critically reflect on the impact, ethics, and limitations of community-engaged AI work.
