Course Description
Course information provided by the 2026-2027 Catalog.
This course provides an introduction to the financial management of sports organizations. Students will examine the sources of value creation unique to sports entities and learn how these distinct drivers are reflected in the financial statements and the valuation of such organizations. The course will also develop students’ ability to read and interpret the financial statements of sports organizations, with particular attention to how they differ from those of other types of businesses. These differences will be analyzed in light of the idiosyncratic characteristics of the sports industry and its underlying sources of value. Building on this foundation, students will explore how industry dynamics and value drivers inform budgeting and forecasting processes within sports organizations. The course will further demonstrate how variations in revenue streams and value creation mechanisms translate into differences in financial modeling and valuation approaches specific to the sports context.
