This course is a project-based course in which design students and non-design students collaborate to develop a wearable interface to seek solutions to real-world design challenges through an iterative design process and the use of electronics operated by programming.


Prerequisites Design students: FSAD2660 or DEA1150 and DEA1200or Submission of Portfolio Non-design students: CS1110.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand human factors, principles, and methods for wearable product design
  • Learn circuit design and embedded digital technologies, including micro-controllers, sensors and actuators
  • Develop Micro/Circuit Python programming skills
  • Develop novel and user-friendly garment interface that connects conductive textiles and electrical hardware
  • Create and evaluate an interactive surface design and smart clothing responding to sensory input such as voice, music, light, temperature and motion.
