Catalan is a Romance language spoken by about ten million people. The Catalan-speaking area, with Barcelona as its main city, extends across four countries: Spain, France, Andorra, and Italy. Elementary Catalan I is a task-based course that introduces you to basic vocabulary, grammar, and communicative functions in Catalan, while fostering your understanding of its diverse cultures. Through various tasks, multimodal texts and assessments, you will begin developing your oral, written, listening, and reading skills, along with strategies for everyday communication.
