Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2024-2025.
Laboratory introduction to principles and analytical techniques of nutritional research. Emphasizes analytical concepts and skills required to determine nutrient function and nutritional status of individuals and populations. Topics include methods of nutrient, metabolite, and enzyme analysis in body fluids; methods for assessing individual food intake and nutritional status; methods for assessing body composition and energy expenditure; and methods for assessing the composition of foods.
When Offered Fall.
Permission Note Enrollment preference given to: senior Nutritional Sciences majors and DPD (Dietetics) students.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: undergraduate biochemistry, NS 3450, NS 3310 preferred, or (where possible) concurrent registration.
Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental theory and practice of common quantitative and qualitative methodologies used in nutrition and clinical research.
- Demonstrate an understanding of measurement error and its assessment.
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively interpret, report, and communicate experimental data.
Regular Academic Session. Choose one lecture and one laboratory.

Prerequisite: undergraduate biochemistry; NS 3450, NS 3310 preferred or (where possible) concurrent registration. Pre-enrollment is limited to Senior Nutritional Sciences majors and DPD (Dietetics) students; with remaining seats open to all students with the prerequisites in Add/Drop.
