1,000 Islands Sea Kayaking

Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2023-2024.

Journey to a place of unique beauty just three hours north of thaca. A different country (Canada) and a different world, one that is perfect to explore from the cockpit of a sea kayak. Rich wildlife, granite cliffs and hundreds of rocky and forested islands, all after the hordes of summer tourists have departed. We start with basics in the Helen Newman Pool before moving on a lake and finally the St. Lawrence Seaway. Learn paddling, navigation, safety, natural history, and camping skills.

When Offered Fall.

Fees Course fee: $495 for instruction/travel and food.

Satisfies Requirement Satisfies one PE requirement if taken as PE.

Comments Prerequisite: Recreational Swimmer. Transportation is provided to places off campus. International travel documentation to Canada required. Note that participants will need a passport to travel to Canada. There might be visa requirements for non-US citizens.     Drop deadline: August 30th; Course Fee: $495. Prerequisite: recreational swimmer. The first class meeting will be held on campus at B01 Bartels Hall. Other classes will first meet at Bartels Hall and then travel to other areas around Ithaca, NY. The last class will meet at Bartels Hall and then head to the 1,000 islands on the St. Lawrence Seaway for the weekend (10/6 - 10/10). Transportation is provided to classes off campus.
