Designing New Ventures

Designing New Ventures is a comprehensive introduction to the key aspects of envisioning, starting and running a new business. New Ventures focuses both on concepts and frameworks in entrepreneurship and on "doing" entrepreneurship. Students will form teams, ideate new businesses, complete customer development, construct business models and work towards defining minimum viable products. Topics covered will include definition of the market, sales and distribution, competition, hiring and management of people, cash flow and financial management, making compelling pitches and raising capital. The course culminates in a capstone project of writing a business plan and presenting to a group of entrepreneurs and investors. This course is appropriate both for students interested in launching an entrepreneurial endeavor or students who will benefit from learning frameworks applied to the entrepreneurial process.

Enrollment limited to: Johnson and Graduate students. ** S/U or Letter Grade Only - NO AUDITS ALLOWED ** Deadline to Change Grading Option: October 17th Add/Drop Dates: August 15th at 9:00am thru September 6th at 11:59pm. After September 6th permission of the instructor is required to add/drop and a late fee of $100.00 will be charged. If you are dropping after October 17th you will also receive a "W" on your transcript in addition to the late fees. Non-Johnson students must see their college registrar regarding policies connected with adding/dropping a second half Johnson School class. A petition may be required. There will be no enrollment from a wait list into a class if you have a time conflict or will put you over your maximum allowed credits. Add/Drop Dates: There will be no enrollment from a wait list into a class if you have a time conflict or will put you over your maximum allowed credits. Non-Johnson students may add themselves to the waitlists during their enrollment periods, however Johnson Students have priority into the classes and non-Johnsons will be enrolled: 1) IF seats are still available after Johnson students complete their enrollment period and 2) IF the instructor allows.
