Course Description

Leadership Development in Global and Public Health is a formalized course for active and committed student leaders in the Global Health Program (GHP). This includes program assistants, teaching assistants, and advisory broad members. Students will complete a series of seminars that will prepare them to serve as a successful student leaders in the GHP inside and outside of the classroom. Course content will focus on the development and practice of critical leadership skills and competencies. Students will use critical reflection to examine their own leadership styles, while at the same time analyzing a breadth of historical and contemporary examples of leadership in global and public health.
When Offered Fall.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: NS 2600, NS 4620, and/or completion of an ELO for the GPHS Major or GH Minor.
Outcomes
- Analyze historical and contemporary examples and styles of leadership in global and public health.
- Assess personal leadership competencies through self-evaluation and critical reflection.
- Develop skills and tools to inspire active and engaged learning in the classroom, on-campus, and in GHP Programs.
- Demonstrate effective discussion facilitation, by planning and facilitating a class session on a topic of relevance.
- Identify and practice strategies for navigating near-peer relationships and facilitating community-building among participants.
