Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2021-2022.
Professional practice and broader impacts of the mechanical engineering profession are presented through a series of lectures and invited talks, supplemented by assignments and projects. Topics include professional ethics, product liability, intellectual property, career/educational paths, contemporary issues facing mechanical engineers, and engineering successes and failures, along with the global, societal, environmental and/or economic aspects and impact of engineering.
When Offered Fall.
Permission Note Enrollment limited to: seniors in MAE or permission of instructor.
Satisfies Requirement Required for M.E. seniors.
Outcomes- Students will be aware of diverse career/educational paths open to mechanical engineers.
- Students will be able to analyze the ethical and legal responsibilities of an engineer.
- Students will be able to gain an appreciation of the broader (global, societal, economic, and/or environmental) aspects and impact of engineering activities.
- Students will be able to be aware of contemporary issues facing the engineering profession.
