This course includes a survey of labor laws governing employee benefit plans. The course will include an analysis of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act ("ADEA"), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act ("Title VII"), the Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA"), the Labor Management Relations Act ("LMRA") and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Acts as they relate to employee benefit plans.  The goals of this course include understanding why our employee benefit plans are employer based; how to read a statute; understanding Congress' authority to enact legislation; how various labor laws work together to form a body of employee benefit law; equity jurisprudence; and preemption.
