Discusses chemical aspects of textiles and fibers with emphasis on functional finishing and dyeing of textile materials. Examines various chemical and nanotechnological approaches and recent advances on functional finishing and modification of textile materials. Emphasizes the structure-property relationship, end-user influences, interaction with fabrics and fibers, sources, and synthetic routes in functional textiles. Briefly discusses the environmental effect and sustainability issues of these functional finishes and textile chemicals.

Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: CHEM 3530 or CHEM 6250 or CHEM 6650 or CHEM 6660 or CHEME 6400 or FSAD 4360 or MSE 5810 or permission of instructor.
