Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2018-2019.

This seminar will investigate the relationship between law and the multiple political economies that are constructed by forms of social hierarchy, through consideration of the dialogue between critical legal scholarship and law and economics. The course begins with a review of critical race theory and other critical approaches, and then proceeds to studying various methodologies for understanding law and inequality. In exploring the term "economic justice," the seminar will consider such questions as: What can theories of justice tell us about economics and the law? What can economics tell us about democracy and the law? The seminar will use as a basis the casebook of the same name by Angela Harris and Emma Coleman Jordan.
