Law and Policy of Food Systems

Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2018-2019.

Covering topics from farm production to the distribution and consumption of food, this course enables students to understand the complex relationship between the interests of producers and consumers in the food policy and food justice debate. We will explore cross-disciplinary aspects of the legal and regulatory processes that affect production, harvest and distribution of food. Students explore the real consequences of the federal, state and local laws and policies that govern the agriculture and food system. By learning the specialized language of farmers and food policy specialists and advocates, students are better equipped to tackle the difficult technical and policy issues facing food systems today.
