Sexual assault has immediate and long-term impacts. This course will look at the research on the incidence and prevalence of sexual assault, community and state-level assessments of the costs, and the emerging literature on academic and economic consequences. Future earnings and cost models will be evaluated including those used in individual legal arguments. Students will read published research studies, government reports, narratives, and legal cases. Weekly reading assessments or responses will be assigned. A final written assignment applying the research will be done by each student.
