In this course, we will be attempting to develop an account of neoliberalism through careful consideration of selected works by Marx, Foucault, and contemporary theorists who use one or the other (or, rarely, both) to theorize the neoliberal condition. The course is thus both an effort to apprehend this condition and an occasion for reflecting on the illuminative powers and limitations of two important theorists by placing them in juxtaposition. It is a theory course and students must be prepared to work closely with theoretical texts and problems.
