Micromechanics, low-Re hydrodynamics, and rheology of colloidal suspensions. Solutions of Stokes' equations, Faxén formulae, multipole expansions extend single-particle problem to pairs in arbitrary flows and many-body problems.  Brownian motion and its role in suspension properties. Non-equilibrium statistical mechanics to connect microstructure to macroscopic properties e.g. viscosity, stress, diffusion. Phenomenological models. Derive/discuss landmark results.

Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: Vector calculus, ODEs, PDEs, physics, fluid mechanics, MATLAB.
